How A 9 Year-Old Kid Discovered A Million Year-Old Fossil – #CanIGetAnAmen

Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day!  At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity.  We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!

Another story of right time, right place…and a little bit of being clumsy,   Jude Sparks, who was just 9 years old, was on a hike in New Mexico with his folks last November. He said, he got off the regular trail and he was ahead of his family and trip on what he thought was a rock…but when he looked again it looked like part of an elephant tusk.  He folks ran up to him because his face landed right next to what appeared to be a bigger part of the jawbone.

And  When his dad looked a little further up the trail – there was another tusk sticking up.

So Jude and his family did what we all do – they took a picture, went home and researched online and when it’s didn’t match up with elephants…then they decided to contact New Mexico State University biology professor Peter Houde.  He took one look at the photos and informed the family that Jude had tripped over and discovered a million-year-old fossil of a stegomastodon.

The professor said this may be only the second discovery like this in New Mexico and that the entire skull weighs nearly a ton. And for his trouble, Jude and his family joined The Professor and his team as they uncovered the skull. (SEE FULL REPORT HERE)
