Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
I love when we get to feature our first responders on CAN I GET AN AMEN, today’s story is about a quick-thinking paramedic – who arrived at the scene of a sinking SUV in a lake in Illinois.
Todd Zobrist said he and his partner had just gotten the call minutes before and were on the scene in no time. When they arrived, someone mentioned there were still people inside. Todd said without thinking he jumped in the lake and started swimming toward the vehicle. The Problem is the water was really, really cold.
Todd said, “When I got halfway there, I was thinking to myself, ‘This was a terrible decision, and I really just need to turn around and go back to the dock,’”. But he kept swimming, nearly the length of a football field. When he got to the SUV he didn’t see a driver but did spot an empty car seat in the back.
Then, he saw the baby.
Todd said “…at first, I thought it was just a doll, a kids’ toy of some sort. (But) I reached back as far as I could… I was able to grab a foot,” Zobrist said.
The paramedic pulled the baby out, climbed on the roof of the SUV and started performing CPR, the baby finally spit up water and started breathing again.
But the SUV was sinking, so Todd dove back into the water and swam back to shore with one arm, all the while holding the baby above the water. He said the water was so cold that it was painful. He got the baby back to the ambulance and stabilized, Todd said it was “Unbelievable, miracle, the stars were aligned for us to be in the situation to help that baby.”
So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can throw your hand in the air, “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for this … Always focused on the good news, and if you ever see a story that would make a great amen email it in at George@thebullhouston.com
