Breaking: Cody Johnson Named Replacement For Old Dominion

RodeoHouston has announced that Cody Johnson will be performing at RodeoHouston on Wednesday night for Armed Forces Appreciation Day. This news comes after the last minute cancellation by Old Dominion due to the passing of a family member. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.

According to a press release from RodeoHouston:

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ officials have announced that Cody Johnson will be the new entertainer for the March 8 performance of RODEOHOUSTON® in NRG Stadium after Old Dominion had to cancel. “Cody Johnson will be a great addition to our 2017 RODEOHOUSTON lineup,” said Joel Cowley, the Show’s president and CEO. “We welcome this talented Texas singer to our stage as we honor the men and women of our military on Armed Forces Appreciation Day.” Previously purchased tickets for March 8, regardless of the entertainer name on the tickets, are still valid. For those fans who want refunds for the March 8 performance, please visit rodeohouston.com/updates for instructions. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs March 7-26, 2017.

Now, we look forward to Cody Johnson’s debut on the RodeoHouston stage! Your tickets purchased prior will still be valid.

Many have pointed out the similarities between Cody Johnson and George Strait, not only both Texas born Country Music singers but also similar stories now that Cody has been named a replacement for RodeoHouston.

As the story is told:

Strait’s first appearance at RodeoHouston was not as a marquee attraction. In 1984, Eddie Rabbitt canceled on the day of his scheduled show, leaving rodeo organizers scrambling to find a replacement. It came down to Strait, who lived in Seguin and could get here on time.
“They asked me if I could be at the Houston Astrodome in two hours to play the rodeo,” Strait recalled before the crowd Sunday. “I said, `This has got to be a joke.’ “
He was found bird hunting, but he rustled up his band and was flown to Houston on a private jet to perform a show that would begin his rise to fame.
Congrats to Cody Johnson for this special opportunity.
