Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
We Love a CAN DO Attitude here on The Morning Bull, that is what 85-year-old Bob Rutherford has in buckets. Bob lost his wife in 2010, and he said that when that happened, he “..felt the loss that everybody feels and (he)had nothing to do,”. But Bob’s son came by one day and told his dad, hey pops remember you always told us “If you want to help yourself, help somebody else.”
So Bob started knitting socks for a local homeless shelter near his house in Canada. Unusual hobby for an 85-year-old fella, but he enjoyed it. And soon he remembered that he’d actually built a homemade knitting machine for his wife like 10 years ago – so he brought it up from the basement and called on some buddies – 92-year-old Glynn, 85-year-old George and “youngster” of the bunch 65-year-old Barney. And they got to work, knitting every week. Making long, warm wool tube socks – and just last week the old fellas got recognized for knitting over 10,000 pairs of socks for the homeless shelter.
He calls it SOCKS BY BOB and experts have looked at it and they have no idea how Bob makes the knitting machine, made from PVC pipe and wood planks, work – BUT HE DOES! He said making the socks have given him purpose. “There’s a lot of us, as we grow older, we sit at home and look at the wall with nothing to do. “And Socks by Bob has given me that something to do,
So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can you throw your hand in the air… “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for these sock makers… Focused on The Good it’s the Morning Bull, and if you ever see a story you think would make a great AMEN – email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
