CAN I GET AN AMEN: During Tennessee Wildfire, Pilots Praise Pond-Filling Family

Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day!  At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity.  We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!

We’ve all been devastated to watch the destruction that has been the wildfires that burned so much of Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  Such a beautiful area, and beautiful people – like Larry Chesney.

When the fires got so intense last weekend Larry said Army National Guard helicopter started dropping in on him and his family.  Literally, the pilots who were desperately fighting wildfires were searching to grab water from any safe source they could find.  Well, They Found Larry’s backyard pond.

Larry said, “The helicopters started coming in on Monday.  It would take the helicopter four minutes to get the water, drop it on the fire, and come back again,”.  Larry  had just stocked that pond with fish a couple of weeks ago…but rather than “react angrily at the surprise of helicopters siphoning from the sky, the Chesney’s viewed it as an opportunity to contribute.”

It didn’t take long before the pond was almost dry – so Larry and his family gathered up as many water hoses as they could find, buy or borrow and ran them to the pond, turned them on full blast, and the hoses been running non-stop and helped refill the pond.

Larry said as long as they [the pilots] wanted to keep getting water here, we wanted to do anything we could to help.” The National Guard pilots were amazed “It is definitely a first for me,” said pilot BJ Koons.  “I mean, most people wouldn’t want us to dry their pond out…them running water hoses to the pond really helped out a lot.  This pond is a few minutes closer than our other main source at Perry’s Mill Dam.  Getting water from here saved a lot of time and gas so we can drop more buckets to help fight the fire.”

And a bonus AMEN – the local water company where Larry and his family get their water has thanked him for helping firefighters and said it will help pay their very large water bill.

So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can throw your hand in the air, “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for this … Always focused on the good news, and if you ever see a story that would make a great amen email it in at George@thebullhouston.com
