Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day! At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity. We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!
Half the Country is Happy, Half the Country is Upset – but I’m a consensus builder and I think I have an “AMEN” story – everyone can get behind this morning. It happened at the voting location in Joplin, Missouri. Harvey Erwin was standing in line to cast his vote and while standing in line, a man behind him spotted Harvey’s hat and asked him about it. Harvey explained it was his Air Force hat, see Harvey was a tail gunner and flew 25 missions during his deployment…in WORLD WAR 2.
The fella reached out to shake his hand, and Harvey stumbled a bit as they shook hands, that’s when another voter asked poll workers if Harvey could move to the front of the line so he wouldn’t have to stand so long. Poll workers said yes, and according to Harvey’s daughter as they started walking up, “People turned and started clapping all the way to the front of the line and saying “Thank you for your service,”. It turned into a full-out, standing ovation for the WW II vet.
Harvey’s daughter said. “It made tears stream down my face because of the recognition to my sweet dad.” The local newspaper picture that captured the moment as Harvey filled out his ballot with his 3-year-old great-granddaughter beside him. By The Way, Harvey told the newspaper he has voted in every election since 1940, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt ran for his third term. It’s my heritage to vote,” he said. “You can’t criticize if you don’t vote.”
So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can throw your hand in the air, “CAN I GET AN AMEN” for this World War II Vet… Always focused on the good news, and if you ever see a story that would make a great amen, email it in at George@thebullhouston.com
