CAN I GET AN AMEN: NBA Star Speaks Loudly With Sign Langage

Time for our “CAN I GET AN AMEN” story of the day!  At “THE MORNING BULL” we believe in the power of positivity.  We believe there are more good people than bad in the world, and we believe that goodness should be celebrated when you find it!

Kristin from league City sent me this story…she said she is a huge Houston Rockets and NBA fan and she saw something that was AMEN worthy about NBA STAR Zach Lavine.  Lavine plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves and maybe you know his name because he won the NBA Slam-Dunk Contest last year.  The 21 year-old is fast becoming one of the rising stars on the court, but it’s what he’s doing off the court that got Kristin’s attention.

It started in Zach’s rookie season he was out to eat and a boy recognized Lavine and came over to say hi.  Zach quickly realized that the boy was deaf, so Lavine signed an autograph for the boy and then signed a conversation with him.  The young boy burst into tears when he realized Zach could communicate using sign language.  And Levine said that inspired him to start a relationship with the Metro Deaf School in St. Paul, Minnesota…a school that Zach noticed served fast food and pizza for lunch all the time – he was told the school didn’t have a kitchen – so this past summer when he got his Slam Dunk prize winning check  – he went to the school and completely funded building them a kitchen.

Zach said he starting study sign language in high school with a friend and is now completely fluent is signing.  He has been visited the school to serve lunch to kids, host parties and fundraiser and of course   to get in a few pickup games of basketball.  And the best part – Lavine had told no one about his nearly two year involvement with the school – no media briefings or photo ops that is until the school let slip that he had paid for the NEW KITCHEN – lock, stock and barrel. Zach wrapped it up by saying “I just want to shed light on the subject, and maybe more people can join in and just bring awareness,”

So where ever you are in the kitchen or in the car…can you throw your hand in the air… “CAN I GET AN AMEN”… – Focused on The Good News – it’s the Morning Bull, and if you ever see a story you think we should feature just email mail it to George@thebullhouston.com
