Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson: ‘A&E and Us Are Fine’
Last week, A&E reversed its decision to suspend Phil Robertson from upcoming episodes of the popular reality TV series Duck Dynasty due to his controversial comments published a GQ interview. The precise reasons behind the reversal may never be entirely known, though many have speculated that threats of boycotts against A&E for the decision — as well as a statement from the Robertson family saying they couldn’t do the show without patriarch Phil — likely played a role. Duck Dynasty is the A&E’s highest-rated program.
Does this now mean there is bad blood between the network and the Robertson family? According to Willie Robertson, one of Phil’s four sons who also appears on the show, the answer is no. “A&E and us are fine,” the younger Robertson told Fox during the TV special All-American New Year, which aired earlier this week.
“You know we are ready to move on,” Robertson continued. “I think we all learned a lot and we are just ready to move on and the family is happy and we are ready to go.”
Willie Robertson’s quotes echoed the sentiments he had tweeted out earlier in the week, when he said he’s “so proud of all the fans of the show and family. Ole Phil may be a little crude but his heart is good. He’s the Real Deal!”
Phil Robertson’s “crude” remarks in the GQ interview included comparing homosexuality to bestiality. “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he told GQ.
The family, though, is eager to put the incident behind them.
“We’re just glad to get back to work,” said Robertson. “We are looking forward to getting back to making some funny shows and it’s a new year, so we are ready to break in a new year and start it all over again.”
