Dear Foley & Thunder,
“I am in need of the brutal truth. I’ve been with my boyfriend little over a month now, but I’m not sure if I want to stay with him. Well, we liked each other from day one we “just knew” we wanted to be together. At first I really did think he was my dream guy. He acted and described himself as a good ol’ country boy, respectful, southern gentleman. He told me he was in the Navy as soon as we started dating.
I told him I didn’t mind the whole military thing was not an issue for me. I can definitely deal with the distance and everything else that comes along with it.I tried asking him about the Navy several times. I’d ask how long he’s been in service, had he been deployed before etc. etc., and he’d always avoid answering any questions.
A week before his “deployment” his family threw him a going away party, and obviously I was invited, so the night right before his party he told me he is BARELY going to basic. He obviously HAD to tell me because I’d find out anyway at the party. When I asked him why he lied he told me he was afraid I wouldn’t want to “waste” my time on him if I knew he was barely enlisting.
I have two questions one am I being selfish??? Two, if I decide I want to break up with him it can’t be through a dear John letter while he’s in basic, right?”
Greg thinks once he has lied he will most likely do it again, so she needs to leave him before she invests too much emotion into the relationship. Corey does think she needs to break up with him too, but maybe a Dear John letter isn’t the right approach.
Of course Cowboy Dave has a different opinion. He thinks the guy will change after basic training and she needs to stick it out.
Our listeners by far agree that she needs to get out of that relationship…
