BRANTLEY GILBERT started off an interview with CMT by saying he didn’t want to talk about his, “disengagement”. That’s code for his breakup with JANA KRAMER.
But then he got into the details of his next album and he couldn’t avoid the subject because their relationship is all over the record. He said, “The love songs are still on there. I didn’t change anything.”
“It’s kinda like how tattoos are chapters of your life. And all my records are chapters of my life. They all tell stories, and obviously she’s a big part of the story.”
There’s one song in particular that addresses the bitter end. He says, “‘I’m Gone’ is kind of a breakup song. But there were some goodbye situations in there and some hell-raisin’ situations. There was a lot to write about.”
Brantley isn’t interested in talking about relationship details . . . he’d rather just put it in a song. He said, “I sing about the things that I don’t have conversations about. That’s me giving as much as I can.”
And if you’re wondering what he’s been up to since the split, well, for one thing he got the hell out of Nashville for a while. He said, “I moved back home to Georgia, so I just flew back and forth to make the record.”
He may also be ready to get back in the saddle, if you know what I mean. He said, “I’ll be in Nashville for a while now then I’ve got some time off. I had a wedding scheduled, and my schedule just opened up.”
By the way, he’s calling the new album “Just As I Am”, and he’s hoping to release it early next year.
