Randy Travis has not undergone heart surgery since he was admitted to a Texas hospital on Sunday, according to the singer’s publicist.
Earlier this morning, Randy Travis’ sister-in-law Teresa Traywick had issued a statement saying the country singer, currently hospitalized in critical condition at a Plano hospital, had undergone heart surgery to treat his viral cardiomyopathy. His Nashville-based publicist says that is not true.
Kirt Webster, Travis’s publicist says, “Travis was admitted into a Texas hospital on Sunday and underwent placement of an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals. Travis has not undergone heart surgery.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a ventricular assist device (VAD) is “an implantable mechanical pump that helps pump blood from the lower chambers of your heart (the ventricles) to the rest of your body.”
Travis issued a statement as well which said…”We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support during this time.”
