The 2013 CMA Fest will be one for the record books for many reasons, among them being those tender moments that took place.
Perhaps the most tender and touching moment was when George Jones‘ wife of 30 years, Nancy Jones, shared stories of her husband as well as what his last words were before his death.
Jones’ drummer, Bobby Birkhead, and other notables such as the iconic country music musician Randy Travis and John Rich also participated in paying tribute to the late Jones at this year’s CMT Fest.
The stories that they shared were filled with antics, laughter, impatience, fun times, but most importantly, love.
Upon Jones’ death, his wife talked about his illness and then added: “I believe he was introducing himself to God.” She also stated his final words before he died: “‘Hiya. I’ve been looking for you. I’m George Jones,’” she recalls her husband uttering just before his passing.
Jones, who was the cool, distinctive and melodious voice behind such songs as “White Lightning”, died on April 26th of this year.
From an illustrious music career that spanned several decades, Jones became known as the greatest living country singer of all time; a current legion of fans stands as testament to such.
Remembering George Jones is easy; for many, he represents the quintessential musician with a gift for lifting others to ultimate joy with his music.
