From his trademark “Yo Dawg” phrase to losing weight and gaining fresh perspectives about potential talent in the realms of reality television, music mogul Randy Jackson is calling it quits as host on “American Idol”.

US Weekly reports that Jackson is leaving the show after 12 seasons. “Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” he stated, as told to US Weekly. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity, but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”

Even before his ‘Idol’ days, Jackson made a name for himself as a highly sought-after music producer and has even won a GRAMMY as such.

He is also played in bands with Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia. In the early 1980s he played on three albums for Jean-Luc Ponty and with the rock band Taxxi.

“Until now, Jackson, 56, has been the one constant, aside from host Ryan Seacrest, during the Fox series’ decade-plus run. As the only remaining original panelist, he has outlasted former judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler,” added US Weekly.

Jackson also served as executive producer for MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
