When you think Hawaiian Tropic, you think of tanning oil and beautiful women, but that was never the brands intention.
These pageants were supposed to be directed towards women because they make up such a large percentage of sunscreen users, but the bikini contests backfired. Women stopped supporting the contests, so Hawaiian Tropic called it quits. The Hawaiian Tropic Australian Pageant 2012 was the last bikini contest.
No kidding. Seeing beautiful, fit, tan women only make us “normal” women self conscious about our own bodies. I buy and use Hawaiian Tropic’s products like their tanning oil, but I wouldn’t set my DVR to record their bikini contest to see what the brand thinks I “should” look like.
Instead, Hawaiian Tropic will be focusing on the newest “face” for the brand. They aren’t looking for the girl who looks the best in the smallest bikini like these past contestants.
Contestants will be able to submit their photo and profile information to Hawaiian Tropic’s Facebook page, allowing women everywhere a chance to show off their own unique beauty.
The brand is looking for a spokeswoman who will promote healthy beautiful skin, and they are allowing Facebook fans to vote. The NY Times has more information on Hawaiian Tropic and where the brand is headed next.
