The search for the newest “American Idol” is in full swing and the superstar judges recently landed in San Antonio, Texas to find him or her!

Two Houston-area hopefuls proved that they have the pipes to sing and become the next “American Idol”; their talent, singing skill set and tenacity advanced them both to Hollywood.

Twenty-nine-year-old Vincent Powell is really trying to “make it happen”. Although he was a bit nervous performing in front of his idol and “American Idol” judge Mariah Carey, he set the nerves aside to deliver a performance that is worthy of advancement.

Powell is originally from Austin, but moved to Houston in 2001 to attend Texas Southern University. He sang “Rock Me, Baby” for Carey, as well as judges Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.

Powell hopes to record a Gospel album in the near future. He seemed to beam bright as he was told by his crush own personal idol Carey, that he “sang like an angel.”

Sixteen-year-old Sanni M. Mairura from Pearland is on his way to Hollywood, thanks to a convincing rendition of Michael Jackson‘s “Who’s Loving You?”

Mairura, who has several YouTube videos of him singing is a product of a mother from Tanzania and a father is from Kenya. They met here in the United States while attending college.

For Mairura, singing is apart of who he is and he hopes to become not only a singer but a professional dancer as well.

Check out video of him below!

We wish these two Houston-area hopefuls all of the best!
