When it comes to that cherished father-son relationship, there’s so much the two can have in common. There is also that “passing of the torch” to the son and such seems to be true in Will Smith’s family, in that “save the planet” kind of way.

Actor Will Smith has seemed to set a great example of stellar movie acting, especially when it comes to playing the “action hero” in movies. Smith’s son Jaden Smith is seemingly filling his father’s footsteps in the new movie After Earth. The young Smith portrays “Kitai” while his father Will Smith portrays “Cypher Raige”, a military leader who is traveling with his son.

After their space ship crashes, “Kitai” is forced to survive and come to understand his new surroundings without the assistance and support of his father who is no longer able to help. With only his wits, strength and intelligence, the young survivor must overcome both mental as well as physical challenges in order to survive. The question then that remains is: can he make it in unchartered territory?

After Earth is slated to be released June 7, 2012 and is directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
