Reporting Greg Thunder – Morning Show Voice Of Reason

thanksgiving unplugged The Houston Initiative To Get People To Give Up Their Phones At Thanksgiving

This morning on the Foley & Thunder Show we discussed a good idea that Texas etiquette expert Diane Gottsman has suggested. Put away your phones at Thanksgiving, look across the table at your fellow guests, and talk. What a concept!

It’s sad our world has come to this, but I admit I even sleep with my phone. I have it everywhere and when I have to recharge it and leave it on a counter, I feel like somebody took off an arm.

No phones at Thanksgiving means no texting, Instagramming, flip-phone picture taking, Facebooking, under, on or around the table.  It’s called Thanksgiving Unplugged and it’s gaining some headway from students around Texas who’ve pledged to stay off their phone during Thanksgiving dinner.

I recall having to turn off the football game as a kid during Thanksgiving and that was excrutiating! That was before VHS and DVR.  And when it came to the phone ringing I don’t even think we had an answering machine!  At least your phone will record texts, messages, and whatever anyone else has Facebooked while you “unplugged”.  It seems ridiculous to ask, but have you had to institute a cell-phone ban at your table?

Here’s the column Greg referenced this morning at 8:30am on 100.3 KILT.
