They say everyone has a twin somewhere in the world, but rarely does your twin ever try to imposter you to get free stuff. Brantley Gilbert knows all about that. A young man had been getting all sorts of stuff acting as the singer.
Thomas Michael Barth, 25, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of theft. The Indiana man was posing as Gilbert’s manager, photographer, and even as the singer himself to get thousands of dollars of merchandise and goods.
Over a three month period the poser received $8,000 worth of products and clothing from Robert’s Signs. He also convinced musician Kevin Kyle to give him over $4000 worth of music and electronic equipment.
What’s interesting is Barth doesn’t even look like Brantley Gilbert. He was hiding his real identity and posing as the singer through email and text message. Imagine all the stuff he could’ve got for free if he looked like him.
By pleading guilty Barth is hoping to avoid prison time. However, a judge will ultimately decide on his punishment on December 3, 2012 when he is sentenced.
