The 911 call that led to the arrest this week of singer Randy Travis has been released to the public.

“I just found a guy laying in the road,” the caller (identified only as “Andrew”) tells the 911 operator, during a call placed close to midnight this past Tuesday, August 7. The “guy in the road” would turn out to be Travis. The incident took place on a rural farm road near the North Texas town of Tioga.

“He’s just laying there?” the operator asks. “Do you think possibly he could have had a wreck?”

“I don’t know, I don’t see a vehicle anywhere,” Andrew replies.

Obviously shaken by the experience, Andrew isn’t entirely clear on the details — adding to the eerie nature of the incident. “It looked like it was a deer at first,” he said of Travis. Eventually, though, he realized it was a person. “I want to say it’s a white male. I want to say he had no shirt on, but I don’t know.”

“Are you OK?” the operator asks at one point. “I’m spooked out,” the caller replies–and who can blame him.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Travis naked. He refused a breath test, and he also threatened the officers. Travis now faces charges of retaliation or obstruction in addition to driving under the influence. He was released on $21,500 bond Wednesday morning.

A short version of the 911 call is available to hear on YouTube, while the Dallas Morning News published the full audio today. Pictures of Travis’s wrecked Trans Am can be seen in a video on CBS Local Miami.
