Some considered this ad "sexist"
In an attempt to sell men’s dress shirts, JC Penney used a clip from an iconic scene from “Fast Times At Ridgemont High”
Some are calling the ad, which features Phoebe Cates climing out of a swimming pool in a red bikini, “sexist” forcing JC Penney to pull the ad.
What do you think? Harmless or degrading?
Speaking for Greg Thunder, Steve Rixx and Cowboy Dave, I guarantee you any guy in his teenage years in the 1980′s will remember Phoebe Cates climbing out of the swimming pool in Fast Times At Ridgemont High as one of his favorite scenes ever.
Ever.
Cowboy Dave was only three years old and he still remembers it.
JC Penney tried to capitalize on that scene while targeting men to buy Van Heusen dress shirts and it has caused a bit of an uproar.
One Million Mom’s website says,
“The 30 second ad, ‘It Is Seriously Hot In Here’ negatively portrays women as little more than sexual eye-candy for a men’s clothing pitch.”
Sexist and should be pulled from TV?
Harmless, just havin’ fun?
Not offended but still inappropriate?
What do you think?
