Today, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo launched a new custom mobile application, which includes trip planning and parking information to enhance the arrival experience for 2011 Show visitors.
This free app provides detailed traffic, parking and visitor information to help Rodeo fans better plan their trips to the Show, while providing an electronic interactive visitor guide for spectators while on the Show grounds.
Additionally, 41 dynamic-messaging signs, along with numerous static signs, placed around Reliant Park and the vicinity, direct patrons to the closest available parking lot, while providing the latest traffic information. As traffic flow changes and lots fill, signs will be updated accordingly.
The mobile application, available for iPhone and Android devices, will complement the new sign system. Users can download the app in the iTunes store or in the Android Market (rodeohouston).
The new app features a special “get here” section that offers a GPS-enabled, interactive parking map, with location information, parking prices, parking lot availabilities, and a “mark my parking spot” feature. Parking lot availabilities will be monitored and fed into map displays on the app, with capacity percentages updated frequently.
A map of the offsite Rodeo Express locations also is available, with location information, parking prices and monitored parking lot availabilities.
The application also features Google traffic updates, up-to-date road closures, current weather conditions and directions from the major highways and areas around Houston.
This year’s onsite parking lots include the Miller Lite Main Street Yellow Lot (located at Main between Murworth and McNee at Gate 16); the OST 1 Lot (located at Old Spanish Trail at North Stadium Drive); and the Astroworld Lot (entry at West Bellfort between Fannin and Kirby).
The OST 1 Lot, located just north of Reliant Park, is within easy walking distance (approximately .8 of a mile). Patrons also have the ability to ride a Rodeo Express shuttle to Reliant Park.
This year, the Astroworld Lot is an official Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo/Reliant Park parking lot. A natural grass and dirt lot, Show patrons parking here can walk across the Astroworld bridge for tram service.
Hours and pricing for all lots are available through the app or at http://www.rodeohouston.com.
Other features of the app are a schedule of each day’s activities; an option to design your own schedule; a full entertainer lineup listing, including photos and bios; the ability to buy tickets online; a listing of all Show activities; and locations for shopping and food booths. Users can listen to RodeoHouston Radio, featuring the 2011 RodeoHouston entertainer lineup; buy official Show merchandise online; and post messages and share photos through their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
